Profile Services
Profile Services was formed in 2005, offering engineering support services for product development, design, intellectual property development and defense.
Since then, Profile Services has added, and focuses on GD&T training and consulting, expert-witness services, and Devil's Advocacy.
Companies rely on effective design and design communication. By supporting companies through services and training, companies will improve their quality, efficiency, and global competitiveness.
Profile Services will support the quality, efficiency and competitiveness of industry through the improvement of their designs and drawings.
Devil's Advocacy
Earlier in his career, as a senior designer, Jim was frequently involved in design reviews. Those were typically a horrendous experience for both the designer and reviewers; the practice was commonly termed "shredding the design". As a reviewer, participants asked questions and offered alternatives, but were often perceived as having a personal agenda for the design. Recognizing that this perception made design reviews an inherently confrontational process, Jim started announcing that his role was that of a Devil's Advocate, asking questions to confirm that the design was rooted in basic principles of effective mechanical engineering, rather than in the old stand-by of "that's just how we do it."
Since those early days, Jim has effectively used Devil's Advocacy to help clients improve their designs as well as their manufacturing and metrology functions.
GD&T Training and Testing
Design is all around us, from the practical to the whimsical, and on to science-fiction! GD&T is the only way to effectively communicate your design, so why use boring training and testing examples?!
One of the greatest challenges in teaching is to create content that interests learners. Here are some examples of graphics created for the Advanced Graphical Communications (AGC) course and the Mechanical Design Skills Workshop (MDSW).
